Manganese Alloy Production
Total world production of manganese alloys dropped to 11.7 million metric tons (mt) in 2009, down 18% from the previous year. China continued to be the world's largest Mn alloy producing country having produced nearly 6.6 million mt. It accounted for almost 57% of global output. The global economic recession caused a major drop in the demand for steel, which led to the decline in alloy production. Ultimately, 2009 was a year of global de-stocking and lean production.
