On behalf of the Organizers, I have a great pleasure to announce the 2013 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry, which will take place on February 10 - 15, 2013 in Krakow, Poland.
The conference would be chaired by Joanna Szpunar (Laboratoire de Chimie Bio-Inorganique et Environnment, CNRS UMR 5254, Pau, France) and co-chaired by Paweł Kościelniak (Analytical Chemistry Department, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland).
The conference would be focused on the major topics of the analytical plasma spectrochemistry, such as: fundamentals and instrumentation, sample introduction techniques into plasma, stable isotope analysis, laser ablation and elemental imaging, elemental speciation, applications of plasma spectrometry, quality control and validation methods. New topics may be introduced and the final programme will be set up following the advice of the external scientific committee.

A number of short courses organized by world leading
scientists and manufacturers' seminars will be proposed to the
participants. An exhibition of instruments and equipment manufactures
and publishers of scientific literature will be organized.
In addition to the scientific program, a wide range of social programs
will be available. It will include a one-day trip to Zakopane, which is a
reach of folklore and original nature town situated at the foot of the
Tatra Mountains. Participants will be also invited to take part in a
guided sightseeing of Krakow Old Town.
The choice of the venue is a result of the growing
popularity of plasma spectrometric techniques in the Central Europe. It
would be the first European Winter Plasma meeting in this part of the
continent and as such is likely to attract participants from countries
under-represented at the previous conferences. For other participants it
is expected to be an opportunity to learn more about plasma
spectrochemistry related scientific activities in this part of Europe.
Krakow is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities
of Central Europe included by UNESCO in the list of World Heritage
Sites. Throughout centuries it has grown to be a symbol of Polish
tradition, culture and national identity. The city throve in the Middle
Ages leaving impressive traces of its splendour and wealth: the Old Town
with the largest mediaeval market square in Europe, the beautiful Wawel
Royal Castle, Mariacki Church with the bugle-call from its tower,
colourful and crowded Main Market Square with pigeons, florists, vivid
stalls of the Cloth Hall, museums and galleries and the famous
Jagiellonian University - Alma Mater Cracoviensis - founded in 1364.
Antique buildings and reputable theatres unite there with the newest art
and architecture trends. Krakow as a metropolis with 850-thousand
population, combines tradition with modernity and the intertwining
influences of different cultures and periods make it extremely
compelling.
