The Materials Analysis and Chemical Sciences (MACS) organization focuses on delivering innovative, high quality research results and ideas to our GE Businesses in the technology disciplines of analytical science, materials characterization, environmental chemistry and engineering, combinatorial chemistry, chem/bio sensors, and support research in the areas of Biosciences, Polymers and Chemical Technologies, Ceramics, and Metallurgy.

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities for this position involve working with GE Global Research and  GE  business technology teams to execute research projects using elemental analysis and related methods to study the composition of GE materials systems,  including metals,  ceramics, composites, polymers, and biomaterials.

Basic Qualifications:
  • YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SATISFY THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 19 OF THE FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE ACT.
  • Doctorate degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related  disciplines OR Masters Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or Materials  Science with at least seven years of Industrial  experience.
  • Extensive hands on experience in atomic spectrometry techniques including  ICP-AES, ICP-MS, AAS and XRF.   
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sample preparation protocols for metal, polymer,  ceramic and biological  samples.   
  • Unrestricted work authorization in the US is required for MS level candidates, but  will sponsor visas for PhD-level candidates.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.   
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part  of the selection process.
  • Must be 18 years or older. 

Desired Characteristics:
  • Expertise in instrumentation and computer interfacing to analytical equipment.  
  • Experience in speciation techniques such as HPLC, CE.
  • Broad exposure to other analytical techniques such as MS, NMR, IR.
  • Working knowledge of statistics.
  • Willingness to travel if needed.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership capabilities with excellent teaming and  communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills in the area of materials characterization.
