Certified reference materials for leaching procedures
In case that it is not possible to determine the concentration of the different individual chemical species that sum up the total concentration of an element in a given matrix, that means it is impossible to determine the speciation, it is a useful practice to do fractionation instead. Unfortunately, fractionation schemes lack in selectivity and results produced by different procedures cannot easily be compared.
It is therefore of primary interest to have samples specified for a well described procedure in order to compare different methodologies.
CRMs play a major role in the development and validation of methods and for quality control. The following certified reference materials (CRMs) are available for the fractionation of different elements from solid materials:
