Strictly speaking, phenylmercury is a cation, C6H5Hg+, that forms organic mercury compounds such as phenylmercury acetate and phenylmercury chloride, which have both been used as fungicides. The term 'phenylmercury' is sometimes used as a generic term to describe phenylmercury compounds.
