Nordic Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry

The Analytical Section of the Norwegian Chemical Society invites scientists and users of science to this first Nordic Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry. This regional plasma conference will be held in Loen - one of the most beautiful places in Norway with deep fjords, high mountains, waterfalls and glaciers.

Date: 06.06.2004 - 09.06.2004
National/International: National
Language: English
Type: Conference
Location: Alexandra Hotel, Loen, Norway
Sponsor: The Analytical Section of the Norwegian Chemical Society

Objectives and Main Topics

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum to encourage the exchange of ideas and knowledge about recent developments and state-of-the-art knowledge in main areas of plasma spectrochemistry. The conference will bring together international participants experienced in fundamental aspects, instrumentation and applications in typical Norwegian informal settings to examine recent progress in this continuing growing field; approximately 120 participants are expected to attend.

By contrast to other plasma spectrochemistry meetings, approx. 14 short courses integrated in the conference will be offered to all participants during the four day meeting which may be very attractive to participants to learn about and to be updated on plasma spectrochemistry.  This new consept is ment to stimulate nordic users of plasma based techniques to learn more about theoretical and practical issues as well as obtain specialists recommendations for methods improvements. Thus these short courses are also a unique opportunity for laboratory engineers to be updated.

Oral invited presentations will be thirty minutes in duration included 5 minutes for discussion while the length of a short course will be approx 2 hours. Twenty prominent scientists have been invited to discuss the following topics:

Fundamental aspects and instrumental developments of:

  • plasma sources (ICP, DCP, MIP, GD)
  • plasma source atomic emission and mass spectrometry
  • laser-assisted plasma spectrometry
  • plasma source detectors in speciation analysis
  • sample preparation, sample introduction and transport phenomena

Applications of plasma spectrochemistry in the analysis of:

  • industrial products
  • environmental and occupational pollutants
  • aquatic systems
  • terrestrial/geological materials
  • biological/clinical materials
  • reference materials
  • radioactive and stable element species

The tradition of this type of conferences of assigning a prominent and central role to poster presentations is to be maintained
