Research in environmental medicine aims to identify environmental elements that induce a variety of diseases in the general population. Environmental medicine has three cornerstones - epidemiology, experimental toxicological research and risk assessment. By investigating the concentrations human beings can be exposed to without being harmed, public authorities obtain a basis for establishing safety levels. Monica Nordberg has concentrated her research on various metals, mainly cadmium, and their effects on health.
