Description
The Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry publishes significant advances in molecular detection techniques and their application to biologically meaningful hypotheses. In addition to novel primary data papers, timely review articles on all aspects of cell biology are featured. The journal emphasizes microscopic analyses of cells and tissues but encourages submissions in which histochemical and cytochemical techniques are complemented by modern genetic, molecular and biochemical approaches. Manuscripts are invited from all fields of cell biology but particular emphasis is placed on mammalian development, neurobiology, pathology and immunology. Highest priority is given to manuscripts that use novel or state-of-the-art molecular detection techniques to address hypotheses about cellular function that are difficult or impossible to examine using other methods. Manuscript submissions receive prompt attention from the Editor-in-Chief and undergo peer review with the supervision of the Journal's Editorial Board. Editorial Board members are selected based on their expertise in histochemical and cytochemical techniques as applied to their respective scientific disciplines. The Journal provides a forum for descriptive studies of gene expression and function, particularly when such studies provide a foundation for mechanistic based hypothesis generation.
